'Degrading' Lyrics Linked to Teen Sex?

found this on yahoo... now as a preface, and it does mention it in the article, a correlation does not equal causation, but I have noticed that people that are around that type or music even if they're not doing sex stuff are always talking about it, lol... but thats just my 2 cents :]

TUESDAY, Feb. 24 (HealthDay News) -- There's still no firm proof that raunchy music makes kids have sex, but a new study provides another suggestion that there's at least some kind of link between "degrading" songs and teenage sexual activity.

The findings indicate that "people who are exposed to certain messages in music are more likely to copy or emulate what they hear," said Dr. Brian A. Primack, a pediatrician and lead author of the study released Tuesday.

In other words, teens who hear about degrading sexual practices in their favorite songs might decide to try them out themselves. However, it's also possible that the reverse is true: Kids who have sex just happen to like raunchy music.

Expanding on previous research that linked sexually charged songs to sex itself, the researchers surveyed 711 Pittsburgh-area ninth-grade students in 2006 and 2007 about their sexuality activity and the songs they liked to listen to.

The researchers then determined how many of the 279 most popular songs in 2005 were "degrading" because they referred to sex that's "based only on physical characteristics" and features a "power differential" instead of being mutually consensual.

For example, "Wait (The Whisper Song)" by the rap group known as Ying Yang Twins was deemed degrading, apparently because it included a reference to rough intercourse.

By contrast, the lyrics of the rap song "Baby I'm Back" by Baby Bash, including the lines "I wanna be stronger than we've ever been/I'm here to cater to you," was said to be not degrading.

The researchers looked for links between the listening habits of the students and their sexual activity. Their findings are scheduled to be published in the April issue of the American Journal of Preventive Medicine.

After adjusting the statistics in their findings to account for the possible influence of such factors as race and age, the researchers found that youths who listened most to "degrading" songs were more than twice as likely to have had intercourse.

But the findings don't prove that the music caused kids to have sex, acknowledged Primack, who's anassistant professor of medicine and pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.

"The opposite could be true -- that people who have more sex then go out and seek music with degrading sexual messages," he said.

Other researchers have linked music to sexual activity, but evidence of a direct cause-and-effect relationship remains elusive.

In the current study and an earlier one based on the same analysis of 279 songs from 2005, the researchers did not identify any degrading songs by title and disclosed lyrics from only a handful of them.

They said that 64 percent of rap songs analyzed were sexually degrading, compared with 7 percent of country songs and 3 percent of pop songs.

What to do? Laura Lindberg, senior research associate at the Guttmacher Institute in New York City, said that teens need to learn how to interpret and analyze the messages they see in the world around them.

But, "there's no silver bullet," she said. "If you get all teenagers to turn in their iPods, the teen pregnancy rate is not going to automatically decline."

Harry Carey

So not sure what made me remember this, but I was thinking about old SNL episodes from my boyhood, and then I remembered Will Ferrell's impression of Chicago Cubs' announcer Harry Carey, and I just had to youtube it.  I found a few videos, some actually of Carey himself, and some of Ferrell's impression, regardless, dude is funny, lol

The Making of "Crazy Brain"

well thats not the final title for the song, but thats what we're calling it in the meantime, lol...

thanks to Drazah for filming in the studio, this had to be the funniest/awkward recording session ever, and the fact that it was all on video is even better.  But I have to warn you that the song and the video can get a bit graphic, and even have a bit of an adult content, especially after about 4:15, but thats just where it gets good, lol...

anyways, check it out, this is probably going to be on D'Antonyms project that I'm working on with Drazah,

New Video Blog

oh, so I forgot to post this yesterday when I took it, but it has all the regular updates,

Stepped Up Out The Ride....

Check this out, this is the Aptera 2e, and it will be available on the market as soon as October.  It looks like a car from the future, but I think its quite dope, anyways, check it out,

here is the website I read about it on, Aptera 2e

I'm not quite sure if I'd get one, but they do look distinct, and they would look dope in a music video, so if i get a chance to make a video and put any car in it I want, I'd try to get one of them in it, lol,

Joaquin Phoenix

So this was on Letterman last night, and Joaquin Phoenix was there to do some press for his new movie "Two Lovers."  Apparently, he was quite gone off of something, lol... He talks a little about the movie (very little), and he talks some about his hip hop career (which I'm very much looking forward to, lol)... The interview is a little long, but it gets pretty funny in some spots, check it out,

Fxck Land! I'm on a Boat! Muthafxckas!

So this is like my official 2009 theme song!

So I first heard about The Lonely Island when they did that "Jizz In My Pants" song back on SNL a few months back, and the "Dxck in a Box" like even further back, but I didn't realize who they were at the time.  They're also the guys who did that movie Hot Rod, which happens to be one of my favorite movies... if you haven't seen it, you really need to, its quite great.  But anyways, so this is their new single "I'm On A Boat" featuring T-Pain, and as much as I find it cliche to put T-Pain on a hook, he fit perfectly on this one.  This song has now just made my top 10 songs of 2009, and its just the beginning of February.

Anyways, so I know this is a youtube video, its really not a video, its one of those things where its the song with an image, but it'll do until they do come up with a video, which I'm hoping will be soon.  Anyways, I hope you enjoy, and btw, if you're sensitive of foul language, I suggest you don't watch, lol,

Sincerely,

illy!

Liveness!

So last friday Just Will had a show and it was quite amazing.  I'll start with the backstory.  Will is in a group The Freshman, and hasn't really had a solo show in about 2 years, so when I had a show back in December and he was on it, the guy who put together the show asked if he'd like to do a solo show, he was like "sure, why not?"  Well basically Will wanted to do something amazing, so he decided to get a live band behind him and got The Elevated Hip Hop Experience which I have to say is one of the dopest hip hop bands in the area.  So I was lucky enough to have 2 songs I produced performed, and even luckier to actually be on one of them and perform live with the band, so here are three videos.... The first is us practicing "Day Glow" with the band a J Myztroh's house, the second is the live performance of "Suckas" which Will opened up with, and lastly the live performance of "Day Glow" with yours truly also performing, thanks to Ill Clinton for performing, and Phil Banks for throwing hands up in front of the camera in all the hypeness, lol...

Our mics weren't plugged in so you can't really hear anything of us rapping, lol...

and here's "Suckas"

Notice how Will expects everyone to know his words, lol

and lastly "Day Glow" :]

So my mic was a little low, but it was still dope, lol... and if you wanna get in contact with will,

anyways, hope you enjoy :]
