Somebody Bit Me! The "Whatcha Say" Controversy!

So I made this song "Whatcha Say" back in late 2007 and its pretty much been on my MySpace since then. It was probably one of the dopest and deepest songs I've ever written. I sampled the beat from the Imogen Heap song "Hide and Seek" and there are basically two parts of the beat and two parts of the song. The first part kinda builds the whole mood and the tenseness, then when the beat switches at right around 2:00 the whole song changes. The original song that I sampled from is a completely a cappella song, so all the instrumentation and stuff I did was original. Well basically, this dude put out a song with the same title earlier this year and when I heard it I was like "ummm, okay, thats cool, he's using the same sample" lol... and it was cool, but then when the sample cut out (like mine did, lol) the chord progression and everything was quite similar. Now I'm not saying its a bad song or anything, but it just sounds like mine ^_^

So check out mine... and the part that they kinda bit starts right around 2:00,

This is his version, its produced by JR Rotem, the same dude that produced a bunch of Sean Kingston's stuff, he's dope, but in this case his dopeness is not that much to where he can bite my stuff, lol...

you can check him out on myspace at... http://myspace.com/JasonDerulo or on twitter @JasonDerulo

Anyways, check it out and see if you can see the similarities!

Star Trek Review (Not Mine)

So First off, sorry I haven't been blogging much lately... but I assure you, some is to come soon :]

Anyways, I came across this review of Star Trek from one of my Twitter buddies hank1914 Anyways, check it out, and if you haven't seen the film, you must :]

STAR TREK REVIEW

SLIGHT SPOILERS! BEWARE

Let me preface this by saying I had my reservations about this film from the beginning. Hollywood has recently been on this kick with "rebooting" popular franchises in an effort to introduce them to a new generation. Some have been successful, like Christopher Nolan’s fresh take on Batman. Some have been a dismal failure, such as Superman Returns. So going into this film, I had an itchy feeling JJ Abrams would botch the job. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the man’s work. TV shows like Alias, Lost and most recently, Fringe have given many a reason to watch network TV again. However, tackling one of the largest science fiction properties in history looked like a fools journey, considering Abrams was never a fan of the original show. After the first ten minutes of this film, I can say: THIS IS NOT MY FATHERS STAR TREK. And that's a good thing.

Abrams did exactly what I hoped he's do: Take Star Treks core mythology, shake it up and make the film his own. While the film keeps the vision of Gene Rodenberry alive, it does something unexpected: It actually has fun doing it. In many reviews, not much is said about the relationships in this film, which I think, gives the film its heart and soul. Zachary Quinto's, Commander Spok and Chris Pines, James T. Kirk, are not the casual acquaintances that meet on the bridge of the Enterprise, but immediate adversaries that push the limits of Spoks half Vulcan, half human emotions. To really throw a monkey wrench in the mythos of Star Trek, we learn that Spok and Uhura, played by the gorgeous Zoe Saldana, have a little "somethin' somethin'" going on. Spok gettin' it on with a fine sister? Who saw that coming?

The film gives us what we expect as far as the visual effects. The space battles are well staged and the actors made the characters their own, instead of coming off as cheap imitations or caricatures of the originals. The story was easy to follow, so this was refreshing, because people that aren’t necessarily Star Trek fans won’t be bogged down by techno-babble and a convoluted story that only a real fan would understand. This film did its job: introduce us to the crew of the enterprise and make us actually care about the characters we are watching.

The real Stars of this film are Zachary Quinto and JJ Abrams. Quintos portrayal of the emotionally conflicted Commander Spok was so good, I forgot there were other characters in the film when he was on screen. The screenwriters chose to make him a fully fleshed-out character instead of a robotic talking head, spouting out logic and equations. Though very short, the turbo lift scene between Uhura and Spok after the destruction of his home planet was not only touching, but I think it put to rest anyone's reservations about this actor. He IS Spok and I think Leonard Nimoy was proud. Speaking of Nimoy, It was refreshing to see the older and wiser Spok. In this character, we not only see a man full of pain and regret, but he actually gets to, in so many words, tell his younger self to lighten up and embrace his human side.

All in all this film was not what I expected, but far more than I bargained for. If I had any gripes about the film, it would be Eric Bana's Captain Nero. While his ship was very menacing, he was never really a formidable screen villain and a character I wish Abrams would have concentrated on a little more. Other than that, I applaud JJ Abrams for looking the fanboys, die-hard trekkies and nay-sayers in the face, shutting them down and having the balls to make a space adventure HIS WAY, which towers head and shoulders over the previous films...except The Wrath of Khan.

Standing Up For Science

By NICOLE WINFIELD, Associated Press Writer – Tue Mar 3, 2:35 pm ET
ROME – The Vatican sought Tuesday to show that it isn't opposed to science and evolutionary theory, hosting a conference on Charles Darwin and trying to debunk the idea that it embraces creationism or intelligent design.
Some of the world's top biologists, paleontologists and molecular geneticists joined theologians and philosophers for the five-day seminar marking the 150th anniversary of Darwin's "The Origin of Species."
Cardinal William Levada, head of the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, said the Catholic Church doesn't stand in the way of scientific realities like evolution, saying there was a "wide spectrum of room" for belief in both the scientific basis for evolution and faith in God the creator.
"We believe that however creation has come about and evolved, ultimately God is the creator of all things," he said on the sidelines of the conference.
But while the Vatican did not exclude any area of science, it did reject as "absurd" the atheist notion of biologist and author Richard Dawkins and others that evolution proves there is no God, he said.
"Of course we think that's absurd and not at all proven," he said. "But other than that ... the Vatican has recognized that it doesn't stand in the way of scientific realities."
The Vatican under Pope Benedict XVI has been trying to stress its belief that there is no incompatibility between faith and reason, and the conference at Rome's Pontifical Gregorian University was a key demonstration of its efforts to engage with the scientific community.
"The false contraposition between Darwinism and the Church," is how the Vatican's newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano, headlined its story on the conference.
Church teaching holds that Catholicism and evolutionary theory are not necessarily at odds.
Pope John Paul II articulated the church's position most clearly in a 1996 address to the Pontifical Academy for Sciences, in which he said the theory of evolution was "more than a hypothesis."
He noted the results of several independent discoveries across several disciplines, saying that convergence alone "constitutes in itself a significant argument in favor of the theory."
But the Vatican's position became somewhat confused in recent years, in part because of a 2005 New York Times op-ed piece signed by a close Benedict collaborator, Austrian Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn.
In the piece, Schoenborn seemed to reject traditional church teaching and backed instead intelligent design, the view that life is too complex to have developed through evolution alone, and that a higher power has had a hand in changes among species over time.
He said John Paul's 1996 speech was "rather vague and unimportant."
Vatican officials later made clear they did not believe intelligent design was science and that teaching it alongside evolutionary theory in school science classes only created confusion.
Francisco Ayala, a former priest and professor of biological sciences and philosophy at the University of California, Irvine, called intelligent design and creationism "blasphemous" not only to science but to the Christian faith.
"It is not only not compatible with Christian faith, it is just blasphemous because it predicates from the creator attributes that we don't want to have from the creator," he said.
He cited as an example the fact that the human jaw is too small for all its teeth, requiring wisdom teeth to be extracted. "An engineer who designed the human jaw would be fired the next day. Are we going to blame God for that?"
Proponents of intelligent design say theirs is merely a theory to detect whether the apparent design in nature is a genuine design or the product of a process like natural selection. They reject being labeled as creationists and say recent research suggests that design is the best explanation for complexity in the natural world.
In his remarks, Levada referred to both Dawkins and those Christians who have a "fundamentalist interpretation of the Bible which they want to see taught to their children in the schools alongside evolution or instead of it."
But he declined to pinpoint the Vatican's views on intelligent design, saying merely: "The Vatican listens and learns."
As a Christian I really get tired of people thinking that I'm stupid and thinking that I don't believe in science because I believe in Jesus.  People often forget that up until the early 20th century that almost all universities were founded by religious groups in search of bettering oneself through knowledge.  I believe that many of us Christians have forgotten about that desire in the 21st century, and have become complacent as the "conservative uneducated religious folk" that we are often labeled.
I remember when I first heard about creative design I remember thinking to myself how retarded it sounded, but at the same time I know many people that overly rely on the theory of evolution to explain our existence.  We had to have started from something and I believe that God put everything in place at the beginning and just let the pieces fall as they may.  To feel God's presence is to know how everything came to be, and when I felt it I had a lot of questions answered.
Anyways, it was nice to read this article.  I'm not Catholic, but its kinda cool to see a church stand up against ignorance in pursuit of knowledge and science :]

Tron Sequel with Daft Punk

I found this on Yahoo News...

Daft Punk scores "Tron" soundtrack

NEW YORK (Billboard) – Daft Punk, the French electronica duo known for their robot personas, will compose the score for "TR2N," Walt Disney Pictures' update of its 1982 science fiction classic "Tron."

The film, currently in production, is tentatively scheduled for a 2011 release.

The "TR2N" score marks Daft Punk's first foray into the studio since 2005's "Human After All." After an extended hiatus, the duo reemerged in 2007 for an extensive world tour, spawning the Grammy-wining live set "Alive 2007." The group's 2001 track "Harder Better Faster Stronger" was adapted by Kanye West for his single "Stronger," and the pair appeared at the 2008 Grammy Awards with the rapper.

The musicians, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, split their time between Paris and Los Angeles, where they have assembled a new recording studio for the TR2N project.

Daft Punk have worked in film before, most notably as directors of their feature "Electroma," although that film used none of the group's own music.

The original "Tron," which pioneered the use of computer graphics, was scored by Wendy Carlos, an electronic musician and composer whose "Switched on Bach" album was one of the first to highlight theMoog synthesizer as a musical instrument.

(Editing by Dean Goodman at Reuters)

so i'm pretty sure this will be freakin awesome :]

I made a beat... sampling "Ashes to Ashes"

so on Tuesday I made a video of me sampling David Bowie's "Ashes to Ashes"

and here it is... pardon the dancing, lol...

Yo, look at dis camera in my eye dawg!

Filmmaker plans "Eyeborg" eye-socket camera (Reuters)

  • Posted on Thu Mar 5, 2009 12:38PM EST

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - A Canadian filmmaker plans to have a mini camera installed in his prosthetic eye to make documentaries and raise awareness about surveillance in society.

Rob Spence, 36, who lost an eye in an accident as a teen-ager, said his so-called Project Eyeborg is to have the camera, a battery and a wireless transmitter mounted on a tiny circuit board. http://www.eyeborgblog.com/

"Originally the whole idea was to do a documentary about surveillance. I thought I would become a sort of super hero ... fighting for justice against surveillance," Spence said.

"In Toronto there are 12,000 cameras. But the strange thing I discovered was that people don't care about the surveillance cameras, they were more concerned about me and my secret camera eye because they feel that is a worse invasion of their privacy."

Spence, in Brussels to appear at a media conference, said no part of the camera would be connected to his nerves or brain.

He does not intend to create a reality TV show and the camera will be switched off when not needed, he said.

"I don't want to go into a locker room. I don't want to show the world me going to the bathroom either ... I'm not a life-caster and I don't plan to be one," he said.

(Reporting by Bate Felix; Editing by Louise Ireland)

So this mess is dope... i think if i had a prosthetic eye i would def put a camera in it... i mean imagine having first hand visuals from performances, or imagine smashing girls, jk... but for real though, it would be quite tite :]
